3:00 a.m.

Another one of those nights
When you can’t fall asleep
But you are at peace with
Your heart and your soul
The ticking of the clock is
Slow enough for you to hear
And count as you try to sleep
The world feels peacefully
Quite under a warm blanket
Of protection with no fear
The air gently taps on your
Windows and the room is
Perfectly chilled reminding
You of cold winter nights
With warm cups of tea shared
With your family huddled
Together sharing stories till
You all fell asleep in the lounge
Memories of laughter echo in
Your head as you turn and
Look at the family photo on
Your bed side and a nostalgic
Smile rests on your lips and
You lay back down letting
Those childhood days play
In your head till the memories
Blur as sleep takes over

Your Old Man

Just because you see him smile
Doesn’t means things are okay
So don’t judge him by the lines
That are sketched on his face
But see through them if you can
The pain that hides in the eyes
The lingering shadows that are
Like a trick fading and showing
Up as a figment of imagination
Unless you look long enough to
Notice the creases etched on
His trembling hands as he hides
Them from you and laughs it
Off when you worry, saying he
Is strong and brave unlike you
The slightest way he seems to
Waver as he walks to his room
Refusing your help with a shrug
And gently pats your cheek to
Reassure you of his well-being
The way you can hear him cough
Through darkest hours of night
Making you want to run to him
But you know better than that
Your old man is your pillar of
Strength, your super hero who
Never falters and you secretly
Pray it is never any other way

There is Love

There is Love everywhere
It is when a mother scolds
Her child for being later
It is when a father proudly
Talks about his son’s work
It is when two friends sit
And laugh across a coffee
Table catching up on life
It is when a grandmother
Bakes cookies for her
Grand-kids even when her
Hands shake and back aches
It is when she stands at the
Airport two hours earlier than
The flight, constantly looking
Down at her watch and then
The gate with hopeful eyes
It is when a child helps an
Elderly cross the road happily
It is when they write a story
Together for the world to see
It is when they argue non-stop
But he protects her from bullies
It is when the wind blows cold
And the sun shine bright while
We see a rainbow across the sky
It is spread across oceans and
Waves if only we’d pay attention

Timeless

Somethings remain timeless
Like the love of  mother that
Knows no bounds and drifts
Between spaces and places
To forever imprint an impact
And the laughter of a child
That echoes in long hallways
Preserving their childhood
In memories that the future
Will be thankful for as years
Pass by and silence grows
How the sky feels at night
Decorated by the stars and
The clouds form shapes for
Us to remind of the infinite
Possibilities and realms that
Can be created if we dream
The subtle look between the
The two lovers as they watch
One another from a distance
In a crowd, delightfully drinking
In every movement of another
Places and people where time
Ceases to exist and all that’s
Left is captured moments

Waking up

He watched her innocent face
Lovingly under the warm glow
Of the bed side lamp as she
Slept peacefully like a child
And a small smile formed on
His lips as she tried to brush
Away a hair strand in sleep
That kept disturbing her happy
Dreams of rainbows and love
He traced his fingers on her
Face lightly to not awake her
Feeling the smoothness of her
Skin against his rough hands
He knew every freckle to every
Curve her face delicately held
He hummed to himself as he
Continued to explore her skin
The fingers traveled to the neck
He could feel her life beating so
Softly and in a perfect rhythm
Like it was dancing to a tune
He stopped to look up at her as
She stirred under his big hands
Playfully, knowing he was waking
Her up like he did every morning
Reminding her of real happiness

Together

Invincible you thought seeing them
Together they stayed like two forces
Gravitating towards each other as if
Tied together by an invisible spell
Movements synced with each other
Perfection you envied to have as theirs
Absolutely aware of the presence of
One and another they connect even
In the biggest of the crowds around
His eyes would always find her
She would always calm his heart
They were light in pitch darkness
Never giving up on another one
You could only wish to have this love
Surreal like the air carrying secrets
And orange sun-rays before dawn
Untouchable by the tainted humans
It’s them versus the world in a battle
They win with such ease that you
Wince in envy and awe but they are
Unaffected moving on victoriously
Living their lives as you watch with
Wishful heart and pained soul

Senses

In this hustle bustle of life
Slow down a little to feel
All the things you ignore
As you rush through it all

Stop to see with your heart
The hope in the eyes of your
Child who you just gave a pat
He wants to make you proud
But you never have time and
He falls asleep each night
Waiting for his dad to be home

Did you listen with your mind
The unsaid words she pushed
Down her throat as you quickly
Gulped down your breakfast
Trying to be not late to work as
She waits for the birthday wish
She knows you always forget

Have you tried to smell the tears
Your aging mother quietly hides
Or you just find her old fashioned
Ignoring the voice telling you to
Stop hurting her before it’s too late
Making you wish you were a better
Son who was there for his mom

You can touch with your smile
The life of those children who
You generously donate to for
Better business image and profits
But have no time to even visit
And see those little children who
Just want to hug and thank-you

Look up and taste the air around you
Reminding you of fragility of life
As it holds blood of innocents and
Cries of the silenced victims who
Never got a chance to live their lives
The air holds finality of last moments
For countless souls whose time was up

So be thankful for the life as it may not
Be there tomorrow, so embrace and
Feel while you can for life isn’t eternal
Don’t wait till all you have is regrets

Listen – I

Part I of II

Did you listen to that?
Nature is speaking to
Us in numerous ways
The air teases us with
Secrets its carrying in
The invisible layers
That are all around us
The trees and flowers
Hum songs of delight
As the sun wraps them
With love so they bloom
The seas carry with them
Laughter of children and
Stories of love they bring
To us with each crashing
Wave that touches us
And the chirping of birds
As they fly over the sky
Effortlessly their wings
Move through the air
Creating songs of hope
The colours all around
Giving life to everything
Did you listen to that?
Heart beat.. nature is alive

Woman you can’t love

I’m the woman you can’t control
The one who challenges you
Shake you up when you’re down
The one who looks you in the eye
Questions you when you lose way
And the one you come to hate as
I won’t let you settle unless I know
You have given your very best to it
And so I will make a man out of the
Boy you are today pushing you to
Ensure you get best of the world
While you find it difficult to keep up
With me since I disturb the very
Core you have built for yourself but
You will learn to take responsibility
I’m the woman you learn to respect
Not the one you buy flowers for or
The one you have to look out for
Someone you will blindly rely on
But I’m the woman you can’t love

Surround Yourself

Surround yourself with life
So much of it is wasted away
Look beyond the rat race you
Have joined brain washed by
The world believing that for a
Fulfilling life more is necessary
Constantly struggling to win
Surround yourself with music
Listen to the peace it brings to
The unease of your heart within
Your soul magically taking over
Like finding your way back home
Surround yourself with hope
So that you may find more reasons
To smile in this life slipping away a
Little with each minute of the clock
Even when you stumble hold on
Resilience will take you a long way
Surround yourself with love
All may fail but a warm hug will
Make you survive another day
At the lowest where all doors close
Those arms will make you survive
