Waking up

He watched her innocent face
Lovingly under the warm glow
Of the bed side lamp as she
Slept peacefully like a child
And a small smile formed on
His lips as she tried to brush
Away a hair strand in sleep
That kept disturbing her happy
Dreams of rainbows and love
He traced his fingers on her
Face lightly to not awake her
Feeling the smoothness of her
Skin against his rough hands
He knew every freckle to every
Curve her face delicately held
He hummed to himself as he
Continued to explore her skin
The fingers traveled to the neck
He could feel her life beating so
Softly and in a perfect rhythm
Like it was dancing to a tune
He stopped to look up at her as
She stirred under his big hands
Playfully, knowing he was waking
Her up like he did every morning
Reminding her of real happiness

Best Things in Life

Your hunger for money grows
Keeps you running in the rat race
As you search for something better
Bigger bank accounts to show off
Your big cars taking over the roads
Yet you remain perpetually restless
There is never any peace in your eyes
Swallowing blue pills to sleep every
Night, as the silent monsters scream
It’s a living nightmare of plastic life
Not all is rainbows and sunshine
Didn’t anybody ever tell you that
Best things in life aren’t things?
Happiness doesn’t exist in objects
Hug of a loved one on a tiring day
Can make the world feel lighter
An hour spent with an old friend
The genuine smile in their eyes
Brings the peace you crave inside
A kiss from your mom as you visit
She chides you for not showing up
Lovingly offers you baked cookies
Makes you realize someone’s there
And that cup of tea you share with
Her on the roof on summer nights
Under the starlight sky and breeze
Is where the true happiness hides
So hold on to these people with life
For they are your ray of sunshine

What dreams were made of

Part I of II

He was the sky after the storm
The ray of hope at darkest night
The last bite of chocolate that
You wish would last forever
The breeze that calm the nerves
After you barely survive the day
The ice cream you devour after
Hours under a burning hot sun
The music that lulls you to sleep
The words on pages spilled in
Delightful patterns enchanting
You with its perfect patterns and
Peaceful scent closed within it
His voice moving the strings that
Keep the heart from drowning
Under the noise of the world
The sound of symphony to touch
Your soul and lose yourself in it
A smile that will move the worlds
Electrifying and adding life to
Moments captured in memories
He was all that she had wished for
Only a figment of her imagination
He was what dreams were made of

Stop

You prepare one more group
For another blood party you
Want to throw in your honor
Stop! every war is not our war
Haven’t we shed enough blood?
Haven’t this madness taken enough
of our sons, brothers and fathers?
Hasn’t all this destruction raped
Our country of peace and innocence
Of kids who would rather hold guns
Than toys because they’re scared?
Stop! Every war is not our war
So are we gonna put a price tag
On ourselves for each life we are
Putting on line? What’s the profit
That you will be making this time?
How long before my home has to pay
For the wars you keep supporting
Stop! Every war is not our war
The bigger agendas against which
Human lives keep becoming mere
Numbers on your pieces of paper
In your exclusive files for how long?
Stop! Every war is not our war
Please try valuing peace for a change

Note: This is directed at the rising Yemen war and the role we might have to play as we get dragged into it.

I wonder

I wonder what you were thinking
When those lines formed on your
Forehead in concentration while
You worked over and over trying to
Create perfection in all that you did
Oh love, nothing can be perfect

I wonder what you’d taste like
Under a grey sky and blue trees
As the butterflies flew over us
And the river flowed to the music
And a smile to make stars swoon
Oh love, don’t you wonder to

I wonder what’s happiness for you
Is it when you accomplish your goals
Or is it the midnight silence you cherish
Is it somebody who makes the world
You live in brighter and better for you
Oh love, for it certainly wasn’t me

I wonder what’s life like without me
Does the sun shines brighter now
Has success found it’s way to you
With no one to tilt the balance anymore
Writing words causing you to cringe
Oh love, I hope it’s all you wanted

I wonder if you wonder about me
Like I do in the middle of the night
In silence between conversations
In spaces between words written
In every heartfelt prayer and wish
oh love, for I hope you’re in peace
