Earn Respect

Respect is build upon
Hard work and struggles
To prove oneself worthy
To be treated with honor
And most of all it’s earned
Through your character
Not through force or fear
Or by use of power to crush
Others for that is not respect
That people have for you in
Their silenced voices and
Tied hands but avoidance of
Pain and humiliation you throw
In their way to make them
Fall so as to feel better about
The person who you are but
Don’t forget today may not
Be their day but the people
Will rise and karma will do
The due you carry around so
Be weary and learn to treat
All equally with compassion
Life has a way of balancing
The wrong deeds you do
So learn before you falter

Dead Words

So much of what we want
Goes unsaid between empty
Spaces making the distance
Longer than it needs to be
All the “I love yous’” swallowed
Too scared of rejection we let
The aching hollowness to grow
Inside our chest locking the words
We shut off the inner voice harshly
Our hearts burdened under weight
We choke and stumble around
Never an “I’m sorry” letting our
Pride win over relationships we
Keep losing people slowly till one
Day the road mirrors a graveyard
Thank yous” squashed under feet
We drive people away without
Realizing we are digging our holes
Only to wake up one day and be
Alone and numb from the inside
With regrets and what-ifs that tear
Us up by the burdens we carry
Till we pick a pen and bleed our
Hearts away letting the dead words
Out filling the voids and aches never
Heard before to let the world glimpse
The burdens of the silenced words
Hoping someone out there will act
Differently and live fully unlike us

Unsaid words

Between laughter and words we exchange
The many smiles and jokes we share
Do you hear the words I can’t vocalize?
For every ten words I say, fifty I swallow
For every fake smile that I plaster on
I wince and dislike myself a little more
Knitting this life of lies each day and
The facade to maintain around friends
Takes a little something from me in ways
Like old walls crumbling off brick by brick
I lose my ability to talk mostly now but I
Wonder if you feel what my silence says?
For it’s not what I say that’s important
Rather what I can’t find the strength to
The invisible plea to be understood within
The crowds and madness that surrounds
Is louder than the wars between clouds
On days when thunderstorms swallows
Nations just because it has the power to
You know I play my part on the stage of life
But I hope you see beyond the appearance
There is a lot to be said but I cherish stillness
Because my silence speaks the truth that
Wont ever make way to my lips so I wait for
A sign to read what your eyes have to say

Thunder and Rain

The rain pelts against the windows
Like it wanted to break in the house
Wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa
She watches this with an intensity
A strong desire to let the rain in
Perhaps it would wash away her sins
Her heart is barely beating tonight
Too burdened, too broken too lost
It has forgotten what its purpose was
Outside the thunder rages set free
From hands of who watches from above
Her eyes look up in hope of finding
Something to keep her monsters asleep
They reside within the deepest corner
Of her mind and they’ve been calling
A cold chill crawls from the heart
Spreading within slowly consuming
Every inch and curve as a man who
Finds water in desert after a week
Rain and clouds perform the orchestra
For her last moments just as she wanted
Her favorite ‘requiem’ that fits perfectly
She always had a thing for perfection
A dainty line hums its last words barely
Visible under all the marks hidden
Beneath the long sleeved blue sweater
The rain and clouds go quite outside
The silence has never felt louder
