A little more you

There is a world you hide
Beneath that skin of yours
A world that nobody notices
Where the words are lighter
And heart beat is calmer
A world which is an abstract
Mix of sorrows and joys
All woven together perfectly
Making it more real than you
The face for the appearance
The smile for the audience
The words perfectly timed
An actor’s perfected act
You perform stunningly on
Stage for the world to watch
But it’s when you are alone
In voids and spaces of time
The unsure you visibly comes
Out when nobody watches
That part of you lurking in
Shadows for you to relax
A little more you, real you
Making you more human

What Matters Most

Some days are a race against time
If I run fast enough will I make it
A chaos that surrounds our lives
Is the the only way we survive
Moving on without a thought
But we all prioritize deciding what
Is the most important to us in life
People and things we create time
For they make us feel more human
I slow down to listen to the rustle
The leaves as the wind carries them
I stop to feel the air that fills voids
So much weight of the unsaid
I can hear the wind chimes around
The air playfully creating ripples
To add a mystery to the ordinary life
So I momentarily halt my routine to
relax and take in all that the world
Offers each day subtly to brighten
Our lives but only few are blessed
Enough to see beyond, making this
Life a never ending competition for
An end they may never get to see

Body shaming Wars

I write this as I read another article trying to describe the perfect body size. In the age of social media, selfies and Instagram swallowing us up like a storm, every little thing is put under scrutiny, masses are experts on what’s right and the keyboard gods sit behind their screens hiding from the world passing judgments on all, without a thought of what the end result may be. Body shaming is the new internet trend, too fat, too thin, too short, too tall and an endless list of how we objectify and degrade human beings. As many titles are made in defence of body-types, just as many bullies keep picking on people and making fun of them.

It’s depressing and infuriating that even in this age, we are still stuck in the voids of our selfish desires of validating ourselves by bringing someone else down. The human capacity to ruin others like them knows no bounds, I don’t have to quote any examples, the internet is flooded with stories of people being bullied by strangers, people siting million miles away, why? Oh because the person doesn’t falls into the ‘right body type’ as per their criteria. The immense pressure to look good, to lose weight, to have the perfect body spreads like a fire destroying anything that tries to come in its way.

So I ask you, where are we headed with this? Don’t we have enough damaged people already? In this war of labeling bodies, what is that we wish to achieve? While we all rant and rave about freedom, we rip it apart from others and in process from ourselves too.

Freedom is tinted and shadowed under our delusional definitions that provide us the luxury of stepping on toes of others, self loathing is too much of a burden to live with, don’t do that to others. Let people be, let them breathe and live. It’s easier to be part of the crowd, it’s an endless struggle to be on the other side but next time before we point and laugh at others, let us take a minute and think, if it was us on the other side instead of them and maybe, just maybe, some of us will swallow our hateful words.

Friends

In a world full of darkness
Some people make life easier
Just as some who make it hell
Funny though both are friends
A pat on the back from him
Makes the day less shadowed
A joke he cracked last week
Still brings a smile on my face
A 4 a.m. call for a heart to heart
Things that can’t be said in light
The trust that connected us like
Magnets finding way to each other
But just as many can ruin the day
The mocking tone to disregard
The casual disdain in tone as we
Talk about my life is a routine now
Silent and indifferent simultaneously
Like a pendulum that has no end
Friends feel like random people
Distancing is better for at the end
Of the tunnel disappointment awaits

It’s in the Wind

As I step out of the dreary
Building filled only with
Mechanized voices and
Hollow laughter of people
The outside air feels so
Fresh like a weight lifted
Off my chest and I could
Breathe openly, absorbing
the surrounding to realize
The wind carrying patrichor
I look around and a smile
Spreads on my face noticing
The slightly wet floor and
Breathtaking garden glistening
Under umbrella of water
Droplets like decorations
On my favorite Christmas tree
I inhale deeply letting the air
Fill my lungs like silent
Hope making its way to
Brighten the gloomy day
It carries peace in its waves
Subtly relaxing the spirit
Like watching a sunset after
A long tiring day at work
The birds sing songs perched
On trees creating music
And it feels that the chilly
Wind is dancing to the tune
As I hum along with them
The heart peacefully beats
Happiness is in the wind

3:00 a.m.

Another one of those nights
When you can’t fall asleep
But you are at peace with
Your heart and your soul
The ticking of the clock is
Slow enough for you to hear
And count as you try to sleep
The world feels peacefully
Quite under a warm blanket
Of protection with no fear
The air gently taps on your
Windows and the room is
Perfectly chilled reminding
You of cold winter nights
With warm cups of tea shared
With your family huddled
Together sharing stories till
You all fell asleep in the lounge
Memories of laughter echo in
Your head as you turn and
Look at the family photo on
Your bed side and a nostalgic
Smile rests on your lips and
You lay back down letting
Those childhood days play
In your head till the memories
Blur as sleep takes over

Saving the World

You don’t need superpowers
To save the world from dying
All you need is a pure heart
That wishes to see others smile
Show compassion towards
Strangers in need of help and
Homeless who need food to
Survive through the cold night
A scared child who wants some
Clothes to protect himself from
Thunder and storm roaring in sky
Or Elderly who needs help to cross
The road for they can’t see like you
So look around and lend a hand
It will hardly take your time and
Ease others lives with heartfelt
Prayers your way cause you’d be
Their hero who saved their day

Spread Happiness

A little smile on your face
Can make someone’s day
So cheer up for life is full
Of bumps and turns along
The twisted road you walk

Your words of hope are like
Rain on a barren land so
Write for they create happy
Rainbows in hearts of those
who hold you dear in life

Your twinkling eyes as a
Child does a magic trick
On the road corner turn
His bleak day a little brighter
So slow down it’s worth it

Your surprise gift to your
Mother on a random day
Made her smile through
Her pain as she lay in bed
So sit and share stories

Your invitation to a friend
Over a cup of tea after
Months saved your childhood
Friendship that was slipping
So laugh honestly and freely

Your world seems lighter
As you try to reach out
Realizing you had pulled
Away and they were waiting
For their happiness is you

Silver Linings

If you look hard enough
You will see the silver
Lining shimmering a little
Distance away and if you
Hang on till the right time
You can hold it in your
Grasp like a bird that was
Always yours and just
Lost its way along the path
It is in the darkest of night
A star shining so bright
And in the way she smiles
When you get back home
It’s in the pat on your back
That you got at work today
It’s in the warm arms around
Your neck of your 5 year old
But it vanishes when you
Close your eyes and all there
Is, is blackness stretched in
Perpetually all around you
You involuntary shiver under
The burden of your child’s
Wishes that you promised to
Fulfill for him and you feel
The cold in the darkness
Her hopeful eyes hauntingly
Find you even as you try to
Sleep silently reminding you
About how her eyes lighted up
At the sight of the blue house
The blankness takes away any
Silver linings you saw in day
The constant self loathing of
Failures follow you on the path
You blindly run and stumble
But the nightmare never ends
You keep running wanting to
Scream for help for them you
Keep trying but each day mixes
Into another in your mind as you
Like awake wondering how to
Be good enough for his people
A silent cry escapes your lips
You sit up desperate for escape
Choking under the pressure
Your breath falls short as you
Start seeing your silver lining
A glimpse that comes and goes
But you have seen it and that’s
Enough for you to madly reach
For the bottle of sleeping pills
To swallow till the stars gets
Brighter and the moon smaller

Rat race

To truly be able to breathe
Enjoying what little things
Life offers us that we take
For granted without regret
A peaceful sleep after a
Long tiring day of surviving
And the carefree laughter
At the dinner table with family
Cup of tea with an old friend
We wait till the perfect time
But as you wake up to step
Into the world that is out to get
You like monsters that haunt
You during the days, enjoying
How easily you fall into the trap
Of the rat race the world throws
You into, but you are a voluntary
Victim to this design of life as
You feel it’s necessary to live in
This pace to enjoy bigger things
But by the time you think you
Can stop to cherish, seasons
Have passed and your children
Are gone while your hair go
Gray and you mourn over death
Of times lost in abyss of sorrows
